Interactive Media

With new advancements in technology we are able to create experiences that expand our reality, tell a story, communicate a message, among many other purposes. Beyond its aesthetic value and the power of agency, interactive media holds the promise of augmenting human intellect (watch Engelbart demonstrate the first mouse in 1968). However, I agree with Jonathan Harris when he says that the online medium is in its adolescence and although there is outstanding work being done in many domains, there is still ample space for innovation and the creation of meaningful and transformational work.

As interactive media abandons the confines of the computer screen, designers are given the chance of experimenting and transcending the boundaries of software and hardware, connecting with people at a more fundamental level through immersive environments. It is my believe that this connection cannot only take place at the level of the mind, but has to move us at a deeper level: physical, emotional, and spiritual like the masterpieces we see in other forms of artistic expression.
